If you are a Yahoo e-mail user you may have been the victim of a worm attack on Monday. Named the Yamanner the worm came to the inboxes as a mail with a heading “New Graphic Site”, and all you had to do is open it and your PC would be infected with the virus. The major difference in this particular worm is that it is not in the attachment unlike previous worm attacks and all you need to do is to open the message.

According to Sunnyvale, California-based Company all Yahoo users need to block any mail sent from the address av3@yahoo.com and you also need to update virus and firewall software on your computers. Meanwhile Yahoo is doing damage control to prevent its 200 million accounts from being infected and if you have Yahoo Mail Beta the latest version you are probably safe.

There however seems to be a dispute as to the security threat of this worm from computer security companies. Yamanner, first detected by Yahoo and major computer anti-virus software makers earlier on Monday, was ranked as having a low threat level by Trend Micro Inc. and McAfee Inc.
