Hacker Faces Extradition
"The US government is waiting to get its hands on the person it holds responsible for pulling off the “biggest military hacking attack of all time.” Gary McKinnon is being extradited by the British Interior Ministry to the US where he faces charges of illegal access to government computer systems.
US prosecutors are accusing McKinnon of causing damage worth more than $700,000 by repeated attacks on Pentagon, US Army, Navy, and NASA systems over a one-year period starting February 2002, using the online name Solo. While the perpetrator admits that he was responsible for gaining entry, he maintains that he is innocent of any wrongdoing.
McKinnon, who has been a week’s time to appeal against the Ministry’s ruling, faces a prison sentence of up to 70 years and fines of up to $1.75 million.
I guess someone is serious about hackers.
